Motivation and support, those are the two of the many reasons Jacory Miller has the opportunity to play football for North Eastern State Oklahoma.

“I have a lot of very motivational people in my life, but the one that probably motivates me the most is my little cousin,” Miller said. “He’s 10 years old and he look up to me for everything, he wants to be exactly like me. He motivates me to be the best I can because I want to be the best role model for him that I can be. That’s why I have worked so hard.”

Speaking of hard work, Miller has put years of practice to get to achieved this goal.

“I’ve been playing football since I have been able to, since I was a little kid,” Miller said. “I played in city league, middle school and high school. I have just had a lot of experience playing football to get here and a lot of hard work.”

All the hard work paid off when Miller started getting calls asking to sign with schools, but when he toured Southeastern State Oklahoma he knew he wanted to be a part of their family.

“When I visited up there I met the players,” Miller said. “They were really open and welcoming; they were really nice and cool people. I picked the school because they were just really nice.I liked the way they were; it really reminded me of Lufkin The coaches were good; the players were nice. It just seemed like a really good place, I feel like I would fit in really well.”

When asked how it feels to be able to play football again, he says it’s a good feeling to be able to continue what he loves.

“It feels pretty good, it feels amazing actually,” Miller said. “To think that when the season ended for us and football season, it hurt a lot. To know that you can continue doing something you love, it feels great. After all the hard work put in on the field and in the classroom I get to do what I love and get my future together.”

Miller overall goal for his future is to become a nurse; though he isn’t certain about the other aspects of his life.

“My goals is to go to college and to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in the science of nursing,” Miller said. “I don’t know my minor is going to be yet but I do know I will be getting my bachelor’s degree in nursing to become a pediatric nurse.”

Besides playing football and focusing on his degree he is “excited” about the campus.

“It was really nice,” Miller said. “There was green everywhere, of course and the science building was very nice, I will be probably spending a lot of time in there. The cafeteria was nice, it had chick-fil-a in there it’s always nice to have chick-fil-a. They had an all you can eat buffet, a salad bar, pizza there is a lot of stuff.”
