The Houston Astros faced the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card game to see who would move on to the next round. The Astros came to New York for their first postseason game in nine years with only a few players who have experienced this type of atmosphere. The Yankees on the other-hand is a team who have made the postseason their home. The ‘Stros won the contest 3-0 led by a fantastic pitching performance by their ace Dallas Keuchel.

Houston started the game with an easy first inning for the Yankees starter as Masahiro Tanaka sent the Astros down in order. Keuchel came out for Houston to start on only three days of rest and in his first inning he walked one, struck out two and got one to ground out to third.

The next inning was  much different for the Yankees as Tanaka’s first pitch to Colby Rasmus sailed over the right field wall for a 401-foot home-run it was the Astros first hit and their first run. Tanaka’s night wouldn’t get any better as he struggled to get hitters out and his pitch count started to rise.

In the top of the fourth inning it was another first pitch home-run that was hit 424-feet by Carlos Gomez for the Astros second run of the game. As for Keuchel, his night was the complete opposite from Tanaka’s. He gave up three hits through six innings, struck out seven, and allowed no runs.

The bullpen for the Astros has blown some major leads for them this season and as for the Yankees it is a strength of their game. But on this night it was also different. The Houston bullpen didn’t allow a single hit and no runs to keep the Astros in the lead.

The Yankees’ pen didn’t do what they’ve been known to do as one of their best relievers Dellin Betances walked a man and gave up an rbi-single to the Astros number one hitter Jose Altuve to give Houston a 3-0 lead. That hit knocked the wind right out of the Yankees and they couldn’t keep up with the Astros as they would only put two more baserunners on for the game.

Houston will go to Kansas City for the Divisional Series against the Royals. The Royals had the best record in the American League this year as they claimed the number one seed and home-field advantage for the entire postseason.

Yordano Ventura will be the starter for Kansas City. Ventura is 13-8 on the season with a 4.08 ERA and 156 strikeouts. Collin McHugh gets the start for Houston in the first game of the series. McHugh has a record of 19-7 with an ERA of 3.89 and 171 strikeouts.
