Senior Rachel Hill is “happy” after signing today to play softball at the collegiate level at the University of Houston.

“I’m pretty stoked,” she said. “I mean its a pretty big deal. All the work finally paid off.”

Hill chose this school because it is family oriented and she likes the location of the campus.

“I like everything about Houston honestly,” Hill  said. “It’s close to home, and my family can come watch me play like they have since I was eight. There’s a lot of pro’s to it. Plus I really like the area.”

Hill is one of few girls statewide accepted to play in DivisionI softball.

“It’s a really big opportunity,” Hill said. “I’m really blessed and thankful. Only seven out of a hundred get accepted into a Division I school.”

Hill is not worried about going off to college because she doesn’t think she will have any real challenges.

“I think my biggest challenge would be having a roommate,” Hill said. “I mean, honestly, I am ready for that environment. I think that high school and select ball have prepared me very well for that. I think that I will be able to conquer any challenges that there are.”

It has always been one of Hill’s biggest dreams to play at a collegiate level.

“I’ve wanted this ever since I first stepped out there on the field,” the senior admits. “It has always been one of those goals for me. It only happens to a few, so I’m extremely thankful it happened to me.”

Hill never had a sure thought that she would play at a collegiate level. There wasn’t really a set point where she thought this could happen to her.

“I never had a moment where I thought ‘Hey this is going to happen.’ As the years progressed it was always a possibility,” Hill said. “It’s all about how much dedication you have and how much hard work you’re willing to put in. So after you realize what you want, it becomes pretty easy to achieve it.”

Hill is still looking forward to her high school softball season.

“My biggest goal for this season is to make State. I know we can make it,” Hill said. ” My biggest goal for me it to go out there and put everything on the field.”

Even though Hill doesn’t really know what she would like to major in or what she plan to do career wise, she is looking forward to college at University of Houston.
