Lufkin High School Band members don’t need pixie dust to get to Magic Kingdom in Florida, all they need is $625 each.
Band members had to raise $125 each month for five months through fundraisers and some had help from their parents to reach that goal.
LHS band is marching in a parade at MAgic Kingdom and will visit five other parks while in Florida over spring break.
Many band members are excited to go, but for Destyni Dickens, LHS senior, and other band seniors, they are not only excited to be going to Disney but is also sad that they have to say good-bye to their friends in the band community.
“I’ve been wanting to go to Disney since I was itty-bitty. Its been my dream,” said Dickens. “It’s going to make a lot of good memories for me.”
The 145 band members will be leaving LHS at noon on March 7. They will arrive in Orlando, Florida on March 8 and will visit Hollywood Studios.
On their first full day in Florida, March 9, they are going to Magic Kingdom where they will perform in the “Main Street Electrical” parade. Animal Kingdom and Epcot will be visited on March 10. March 11, the band will visit Universial Studios and then start the journey back home. The band will arrive back at LHS on the afternoon on March 12.
