All of Lufkin ISD’s bands joined Saturday night in Abe Martin Stadium to honor our country’s military veterans.

The annual Honor America Night program began with the Lufkin High School trumpet section playing the national anthem. Drum Majors Kaelin Morris and Verania Martinez led the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.

Lufkin Middle School’s sixth-grade band, directed by Laney Hamner, the seventh-grade band, directed by Emily Cavanaugh, and the eighth-grade band, directed by Tommy Smith, all played, and the LMS Majorettes performed.

Senior trumpet players Jonathan Silva and Karissa Holden played “Taps,” then the LHS Panther Band performed its contest drill one last time.

The program ended with the high school band and eighth-grade band playing “Salute to America’s Finest” and “God Bless the U.S.A.” while fireworks exploded above them.

The band programs recognized former and current military members during Saturday night’s event.

We thank all veterans for fighting for our freedom and rights. We honor our veterans on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.
