Freshman making waves with his new business model

Many people have dreamed of becoming successful in life, but not many are able to say they followed through with creating a plan.

“I’ve always dreamed of being rich and giving back everything to my mom,” Lufkin High School freshman Kendrin Cole-Hill said.

Kendrin, 15, already has an entrepreneurial mindset. With the help of his mother and grandmother, Kendrin created Wavy-Ken Pomade to help with what he called “a nappy mess” on his head. He said he wanted to control his natural hair and cause others seasickness by just looking at him.

Although Kendrin created the pomade for himself, he saw that other people suffered from the same problem and wanted to help them relieve the stress of having “a bad hair day.” Kendrick’s close family and friends acknowledged his hard work and helped him by being some of the first to use his pomade. Within days, Kendrin began to sell Wavy-Ken Pomade for $10 a jar. After some of his potential customers complained of the price, Kendrin lowered it to $5 a jar.

Kendrin has placed his Wavy-Ken Pomade in some local beauty shops and barber shops. Within just a little over a year, Kendrin said he is excited how far his business has come.

“I have completely sold out of my product, with over 200 sales, and plan to keep the business revenue going,” he said.

Kendrin said he hopes that others adopt his motivation methods to thrive and set their minds up for success.

“I wouldn’t start over with my business, because so far I’ve done good,” he said.

Kendrin said his mother and grandmother have been a lot of help through everything and that he just wants to make them proud. Kendrin also wanted to acknowledge his English teacher, Pat Jackson, for allowing him to work on his business page and business-related issues during free time in class.

Wavy-Ken Pomade is available on Kendrin’s Facebook page @Kendrin.Cole-hill and local beauty and barber shops.
