Lufkin High School is getting a new gymnasium, baseball field and softball field within the next two years, as part of a multi-million-dollar bond passed by Lufkin ISD voters this past year.

High school Principal Brandon Boyd said, “Nothing is final on this, but out behind the tennis courts in the huge field is where the gym’s going to be, and the baseball fields will be on the other side of the creek.”

Boyd said the athletic department additions will be “one of the nicest facilities in East Texas.” Construction is expected to take 15 to 18 months, he said.

“There is plenty of room” on the LHS campus for the new gym and fields, Boyd said. “The district was very smart when they bought the land. They bought the additional land to be able to build in the future.”

Boyd said he has high expectations for the project and that it will result in “a nice place for our kids to be proud of.”

Assistant Coach Ashley Holloway said, “We are one of the only 5A schools in East Texas who will have the newest and nicest facilities, and it will be a nice, safe place for the students practice and have fun.”
