Nicole Stewart said she knew she wanted to be a choir director when she was in kindergarten.

Stewart, Lufkin High School’s new choir director, is from Euless, Texas. She is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University.

She said she loves her job at LHS and joked that she plans to stay “as long as they don’t fire me.”

Fourteen of Stewart’s new students have already earned UIL All-Region choir recognition.

“The way you can get into All-Region, you have to perform a cut of three pieces of music,” she said. “You perform a solo in front of a judge, you sight-read for that same judge, and they take the top 15 scores from each voice part.”

Members of the 2018-19 All-Region Choir from Lufkin High School included, from left to right, (front row) Jaylen Sowell, Samantha Standley, (second row) JaNyla Wilkerson, Kirsten Wilson, Philip Callaway, Mikaela Mathews, Ryan McKelvey, (back row) Madeline McCollum, Paige Hoelewyn, Koryn Currier, Aleckxander Smith, Graham Childers and Adam Awtrey.
