New Lufkin High School Theatre Director William Odom said he wanted to bring a comedy to the Tom Jack Lucas Auditorium stage for his first show.

“Making people laugh is a good thing,” he said, “so that’s what I wanted to do.”

The play is about a group of comedians who live together and can’t find work. One day, three robbers kidnap a debutante and bring her to the comedians’ home.

“I like the fact that it’s filled with comedians,” Technical Theatre teacher Deborah Garrett said. “Everybody in the cast — even the non-comedian comedians — get a chance to be comedians.”

LHS junior Graham Childers is playing the part of one of the comedians.

“I auditioned for the role of Ed because I thought he was the funniest and thought he’d be the most challenging role for me to play,” Childers said.

Garrett said the play gives her Technical Theatre students “a chance to do so many different things” on one set.

“We get to put 16-foot walls up,” crew member Tino Solis said.

“I just want everyone to enjoy themselves, have a good time, and laugh until they cry,” Odom said.
