“When you look at me, what do you see? A drug free me!!”

Red Ribbon/Homecoming week starts off with Twin Day in Lufkin High School Monday Oct. 23. Each year, LHS along with other schools in Lufkin take one week of October to express how their school is drug free.

In an effort to educate students about the dangers of drugs, various campuses have themes – Slack Elementary does with their famous “Crazy Hair Day” and Burley Primarily with “Crazy ‘Zooc’ Day.

To tie the week’s festivities in with school spirit, Lufkin Middle School and High School will do an “‘All Purple” day.

“It’s like the one time of the year that we can dress up and act silly within the school rules,” junior Angie Rios said.

“It’s fun to see what students come up with to show they support Red Ribbon Week.”

This year, Red Ribbon Week and homecoming fall on the same week. Students are stoked with football, and if Red Ribbon Week wasn’t enough to get them in school spirit, Homecoming game sure is.

“This Homecoming Week is about every band and football member favorite week,” junior band member Angeles Cortez said. “Is a week leading up to what we practice every day for –  to beat our rival team and band.”

Homecoming game is on Friday Oct. 27 at Abe Martin Stadium against Oak Ridge. Tickets are going to sold at every lunch in High School and at the door of the stadium.
