Soccer Girls 1st in District
March 20, 2015
Even before the Lady Panthers take to the soccer field tonight for the last regular season game before playoffs start, the team has already made it into the history books as the first team to win a district title.
Even so, Coach Juan Encarnacion, who has been coaching soccer for 15 years, said that does not mean there isn’t still some work to be done.
“Even if we’ve already won district, we definitely are going to go out there and play our hardest this last game to finish district right,” Encarnacion said.
Encarnacion is pleased with the outcome of this season and the players progress.
“I’m very happy for the girls, especially the seniors,” Encarnacion said. “This is their last year, and to see all their hard work pay off brings a good feeling as their coach. Our positive mindset, chemistry and talented players have made us a great team this year and we look to keep improving.”
Senior defender Gaby Escobedo said the team has mixed emotions about their first game in playoffs.
“We’re really nervous and excited at the same time,” she said. “It’s only gonna get harder from here on out. We don’t know who we will be playing the first round yet, but as long as we stick together, we’ll be a hard team to beat.”
The girls are one game away from finishing district undefeated and moving onto playoffs where their opponent is still undecided due to how close the opposite district is.
The Lady Panghrts are set to wrap up regular season against John Tyler (5-3-3) tonight.
