Friday night, very memorable things happened at Morris Frank Park during the Lady Panther softball game. Not only was it their first district game but it was also a memorial to the late athletic director John Outlaw.

Before the umpire yelled out, “Play ball,” everyone who was gathered at Morris Frank listened to a short biography of Outlaw’s life. They then all bowed their heads in a moment of silence dedicated to him.

After this, to say thank you to the administration and school board for the new softball field, LISD superintendent Roy Knight threw the first pitch of the game.

With that done the real game started. Lady Pack, on defence for the first time, didn’t let any runs get scored. Unfortunately, when they batted they also scored no points leaving the first inning scoreless.

When they got back on defence in the second inning Conroe, the opposing team, squeezed in two runs.  Lady pack, now warmed up, answered with two runs of their own.

Conroe then scored one point almost every inning until the sixth when they managed to pull three runs on the Panthers.

So when Lady Pack batted in the sixth inning there was a feeling of urgency about them. They scored three more runs making the score 7-12 and definately not in their favor.

This was a very tragic loss for the team, who is really hopeful to make it to the playoffs this year.

“I think pretty much the whole team was sad because we could’ve taken a win on that game,” senior captain Angela Batson said.

One of the obstacles of the team may be that they are really young. Out of the starting lineup there is only one senior, one junior, two sophomores, and the rest, five girls, are freshmen.

“I think as the season goes on and all the underclassmen get more experience playing I’m pretty sure  we’ll get better and become succesful,” Batson said.

The Lady Panther softball team also suffered a loss Monday night to Atascocita. They will be hosting The Woodlands Friday at 6:00.
