This Week in LP Sports: Pack back in action for homecoming week

On Tuesday, Lufkin’s varsity tennis team hosts the Hallsville Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Panthers volleyball teams host Marshall’s Lady Mavericks on Middle School Night. The JV and freshman teams compete at 5 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at 6. The JV boys golf team travels to Tomball for the Tomball Invitational tournament.
After an off day Wednesday, the Pack is back at it Thursday with the JV tennis team traveling to complete the week’s series against Hallsville’s Bobcats. The swim team goes on the road to open the competition season with the Tyler Quad Meet. First splash is at 5:30 p.m. and will feature the Pack, Tyler Lee, Grace Community and Whitehouse.
On Friday, the Lady Pack hosts its homecoming volleyball matches against the Jacksonville Maidens. The varsity girls play at 4:30 p.m., and the JV and freshman girls follow at 5:30.
At 7:30 p.m. at Abe Martin Stadium, the Lufkin Football Panthers open district play with their homecoming game against the Willis Wildkats. Yes, that is “Wildkats” with a “K”. Last year’s matchup on the road saw the Panthers roll over Willis with a 49-6 win. This year, the Wildkats enter with a 1-2 record against a 2-1 Panthers team. Lufkin has outscored its last two opponents 111-7.
Finishing the week on Saturday, the cross country team travels across town for the Hudson Invitational meet. It is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
