This Week in LP Sports: Pack basketball team begins playoff run tonight

On Monday, the baseball team hosts the College Station Cougars. First pitch is at 4 p.m. Also, the basketball team plays the Sulphur Springs Wildcats to open the postseason. The game will be held on the campus of Tyler Junior College, with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats (25-8 overall, 8-2 in district play) are the second seed out of district 15-5A, while the Panthers (25-10, 10-4) are the third seed in district 16-5A. The winner goes on to play the winner of Red Oak and West Mesquite.

On Tuesday, the softball team hosts the Liberty Panthers. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m. The soccer teams play the John Tyler Lions. The boys are on the road, with JV at 5 p.m. and varsity at 7, and the girls are at home, with JV at 4 p.m. and varsity at 6. The JV tennis team plays at the Jacksonville Indians, and the sophomore baseball team travels to play the Livingston Lions, with first pitch at 5 p.m.

On Thursday, the freshman boys track team runs against the Garrison Bulldogs on the road. The varsity track teams for both boys and girls run in the Porter Spartan Relays. Four three-day tournaments begin Thursday for Lufkin teams: The varsity baseball team plays at the College Station tournament, and the JV and sophomore baseball teams play in the Lufkin tournament. The varsity softball team plays in the Tyler Lone Star tournament, and the JV softball team plays in the Nacogdoches tournament.

On Friday, the soccer teams play the Marshall Mavericks. Both girls teams are at home, and both boys teams are on the road. Both JV teams play at 4 p.m., and both varsity teams play at 6.
