On Friday at Abe Martin Stadium, the Lufkin Panthers play host to the Waller Bulldogs on Senior Night for the regular season finale. Last week the Pack (8-1 overall, 6-0 in district play) clobbered Caney Creek 58-0, after blowing them out 63-0 last year for a total score of 121-0. The Bulldogs (0-8, 0-6) lost 36-30 to Willis last week.

This game will be a final tuneup for Lufkin before opening the postseason next week at home, opponent TBA. There are four possible opponents for the first playoff game: John Tyler (3-6, 3-2), Texarkana’s Texas High (5-4, 2-3), Sherman (5-4, 2-3) or West Mesquite (2-7, 2-3). The top four teams in each district qualify for the playoffs. Because Lufkin won the District 8-5A championship, the Pack will host the fourth-place team of District 7. John Tyler plays at Sherman this week, and Texas High hosts West Mesquite.

The only other LHS sporting event this week is the UIL State Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Round Rock. Lufkin junior Adan Hernandez qualified for the state meet after finishing first in District 16-5A and 11th in Region 2.
