This Week in LP Sports: Volleyball hosts Lil’ Drill Night; cross country, golf head to Metroplex

On Tuesday, the Lufkin volleyball teams travel to Longview to take on the Pine Tree Pirates. The JV and freshman teams will compete at 5 p.m., with the varsity team following at 6. Also on Tuesday afternoon, the varsity tennis team will go on the road to take on the John Tyler Lions. The swim team opens its first season under new coaches Eddie Adams and Neil Marshall with a home meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lufkin Swim Center.

The JV tennis team hosts John Tyler on Thursday afternoon to finish the week’s series.

On Friday, there is yet another Panthers-Lions matchup as the volleyball team hosts John Tyler on Lil’ LPVB Night. The Varsity game is at 4:30 p.m., and the JV and freshman teams play at 5:30. Additionally, the Golf team competes at the Bart Granger Memorial tournament in Fort Worth.

There is no Lufkin football game this week, as the Panthers will continue preparing for the beginning of district play against Willis next week.

The cross country and golf teams finish the sports week on Saturday. The cross country team heads to McKinney to run at the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival, and the golf team finishes its two-day tourney in Fort Worth.
