This Week in LP Sports: Volleyball, football teams back in action

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are off days for the LHS Athletic Department.

On Tuesday, the volleyball teams travel to Jacksonville to play the Indian Maidens. The JV and freshman teams play at 5 p.m., and the varsity team follows at 6.

On Friday, the volleyball teams are back in action as they play on the road against Hallsville’s Lady Bobcats. The varsity girls begin the action at 4:30 p.m., with the JV and freshman girls following at 5:30.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday inside Abe Martin Stadium, the Lufkin Football Panthers play the Magnolia West Mustangs. Lufkin enters the game with a record of 6-1 against a 5-2 Magnolia West team. The Pack currently rides a six-game win streak, and the Mustangs have won their last four games. The Mustangs beat the Waller Bulldogs last week 49-20, and the Panthers beat the Tomball Cougars last week 55-22. In last year’s meeting in Magnolia, the Panthers topped the Mustangs 31-7.
 
Also on Friday, the boys golf team travels to College Station for A&M Consolidated’s two-day Tiger Classic.
 
On Saturday, the swim team travels to Tyler for the Grace Community Invitational meet.
